Memorial Day events

BRANDENBURG:
Residents are invited to gather at the courthouse Veteran’s Monument at 11 a.m. May 26 for the annual Memorial Day service.
A wreath-laying ceremony and other events are being coordinated by members of the VFW Post 11404.

FORT KNOX:
Area residents can visit post cemeteries from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 26. These are the only time some cemeteries are open for public visitation.
At 11:30 a.m., the post will hold their annual Memorial Day ceremony at Brooks Field Court of Honor. The keynote address will be given by Brig. Gen. Donald Campbell Jr.
On May 24 and 25, the Patton Museum will host a living history event featuring people in period uniforms, along with historic military vehicles. For information call (502) 624-3812.

WEST POINT:
The sights and sounds of the Civil War will come alive at historic Fort Duffield May 25 and 26. Union and Confederate re-enactors will fight battles both days.
Civil War period services are planned for Memorial Day at 2 p.m., with early arrival and lawn chairs suggested.
In addition, there will be continuous presentations throughout the event, period music, souvenirs, food and fun.

VINE GROVE:
A public ceremony saluting the veterans of all wars will be held at the Vine Grove American Legion hall at 11 a.m.
Afterwards, post members will travel to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – Central to participate in a noon ceremony there.
