And then there was one.

Members of the Meade County Fiscal Court unanimously filled three vacancies during a special-called meeting May 21.

Magistrates still have one position, that of county code enforcement officer, yet to fill. A recommendation for that position was vetoed earlier in a 4-3 vote.

Those selected and their start dates include:

• Planning and Zoning director: Charles (Tony) Coletta of Vine Grove. His initial start date is May 27. He replaces Barbara Campbell, who resigned.

• Planning and Zoning secretary: Laura Haney. Her first day of work was May 27. She replaces Dianna Fackler, who left for a position at Fort Knox.

• Assistant animal control officer: Jasper Hardesty. He will start June 2. He replaces Michael Perez.

Hardesty, who was present at the meeting, said he had been around farm animals all of his life.

All applicants agreed to the salaries, County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft said. During the interview process, a candidate for the Planning and Zoning administrator’s position didn’t, but he thanked the committee for their time.

In other business, magistrates unanimously approved a $1,500 contribution for VICA students, who are attending a national competition later this year in Indiana.

County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft said the Court two years ago had given a $1,000 donation, but there were more students attending this year than in the past.
