BLAKE COX

Blake Cox, a senior at Meade County High School, has received the 2008 Sue O. Smith Music Scholarship in the amount of $500. Cox will be attending Western Kentucky University and hopes to have a career in the music field.

TIMOTHY WIX

University of the Cumberlands is proud to announce that Timothy Wix has been designated a Hutton Scholar for 2008. Named for Dr. Edward L. Hutton, nationally noted business leader and longtime friend of UC, the Hutton Leadership and Community Service Program is a four-phase program providing leadership training and community service opportunities for all undergraduate students. The requirement for graduation includes the completion of the Insights Program during the first semester of enrollment, the successful completion of Lead 100 Leadership Seminar, and a minimum of 40 hours of community service following the seminar. Seniors who have participated in the optional fourth phase of community service, a minimum of 200 hours of service while at UC, receive the distinction of graduating as Hutton Scholars.

Jeff Shouldice Driver of the Month for Crete Carrier

The Crete Carrier Corporation terminal in Knoxville, Tenn., has named Jeff Shouldice Driver of the Month for March. Shouldice lives with his wife Becky in Brandenburg.

David Phillips is the recipient of the student teacher scholarship from Kentucky Association Professional Educators/Association American Educators Foundation (KAPE/AAEF). David holds a B.A. degree in music education from Western Kentucky University. He is a graduate of Meade County High School, son of Mark and Pauline Phillips, Brandenburg, and Beth Phillips, Louisville.

Charles L. Greenwell, formerly of Meade County, retired from the Department of Defense May 28 after serving 34 years in a variety of assignments, both while on active duty with the U.S. Air Force and later as a federal civilian employee.
