Update: ‘Grain bin horse’ case reaches closure
A horse, placed in a grain bin near Wolf Creek, has been relocated to a farm in Indiana, effectively closing the issue, chief animal control officer Tom Brady said July 17.
The 9-year-old horse was located after some observant four-wheelers heard his summons for help.
At the time, Brady said the animal “was and wasn’t being taken care of properly” and that the animal suffered from some health problems.
The owners, who were not identified by Brady, retrieved the horse and were told to either sell it, providing proof of sale, or relocate it to another farm. If they failed to do so, they would be charged with a misdemeanor.
The grain bin was located on a farm off Lapland Road, Brady said. He refused to disclose the owner’s name, but indicated he had been onsite previously on similar animal calls and took the owner to court.
In a related matter, Brady reported animal control officials have had a busy month and a half at the shelter, having adopted out several dogs and cats to new homes.
