Fantastic season comes to an end
Owensboro Catholic knocks Meade County out of state

“It wasn’t our night,” said senior first baseman Megan Fackler. “We fell apart. We just weren’t mentally there.”

That about sums up the Lady Waves’ performance May 29. The Lady Waves went into the game with confidence they could win and get to state, but a series of mental and physical errors made for a long evening against the number two ranked team in the state.

Evans podiums in two events at state

In your first year of competition in track and field, one must learn technique and how to condition your body for the rigors of competition. Winning is nice, but unusual; that is unless you are a superb athlete to begin with.

Carly Evans proved she is a great athlete last weekend at the campus of the University of Louisville during the state track meet. Entered in three individual events and one relay, Evans mounted the podium twice. She came in fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. She was entered in the 200-meter dash but was competing in the triple jump and missed (along with three other competitors) the final call for the event. Based on her leg of the 4x400 relay, she may very well have placed high in the 200 meter dash.

Meade County kids are OK!

The OK Kids (Optimizing Kindness in Kids) annual banquet was held May 28, at the Meade County Extension Service Building.

Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Meade County, kids from preschool-3rd-grade, 4th- to 6th-grade, 7th- to 8th-grade, and 9th-12th-grade, are recognized and rewarded for their unselfish deeds in the community. These children are nominated by teachers, family members and members of the community because they possess character traits such as kindness, honesty, respect, courage and responsibility.

They are positive role models to their peers because of their accomplishments and attitudes.
