Liquor license issue could derail potential Otter Creek Park lessees
By LARRY SEE JR.

As potential lessees put the finishing touches on proposals for the eventual operation of the now-closed Otter Creek Park, one issue hangs in the balance.
The sale of liquor.
The park originally was in a dry precinct of Meade County, which precluded alcohol sales, unless it part of a reception.
Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control public information specialist Nathan Jones said the original precinct status determines what can happen at the park.
The park was originally in the City of Muldraugh precinct, which was dry. In 2001, after a county redistricting, the park transferred to the Doe Valley/Rock Haven precinct, which is wet.
“Since it was in a dry precinct, it is still considered dry,” he said.
Meade County Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald was awaiting word on what her contact at the state ABC board would say.
Jones said, in order for the park to be changed from dry to wet, an election would have to be held.
Before that can happen, a petition needs to be filled out and submitted to Fitzgerald’s office signed by 25 percent of the voters in the territory where the park is at.
Only voters in the original Muldraugh precinct can sign the petition, he said.
Jones said residents in the new precinct can vote in the election. In this case, reisdents in the Doe
Valley/Rock Haven precinct will castvotes on the matter.
He said the issue, after the signatures are validated, could be held during a special election.
