Lady Waves tame Tigers

The Lady Tigers of Breckinridge County visited Meade County, Sept. 10, and returned home after losing in straight sets, but not before putting a scare in the home standing Lady Waves.

Things went according to plan, early in the first set. Behind the serving of senior Capt. Bliss Powers, the Lady Waves jumped early leads of 5-0, 14-6, but somebody forgot to tell the visitors they were down by eight and were supposed to roll over and play dead. What was a 14-6 blow-up soon became a 17-15 dogfight, and the Lady Tigers kept it close the remainder of the set. They never came back to tie or take the lead, but kept it within two points.

Harlem Wizards come to town

David (DP) Paul, starting everything, for the Harlem Wizards, performed throughout Meade County last week as an advanced warning that the Harlem Wizards are coming to town. When asked his position on the team he said, “Anywhere they want me, a little 2, 3, 4 or 5…even at center.”

Paul is in his sixth season with the Wizards, the second oldest sports entertainment team to the Harlem Globetrotters.

Greenwaves corral the Mustangs

The Mustangs of North Oldham paid a visit to Greenwaves territory Sept. 8, and went home roped and tied. Senior keeper Jordan Compton’s 10 saves allowed the Greenwaves to shut out the perennial soccer power 2-0.

Meade took control early in the first half and kept the ball in the North Oldham half of the pitch. Sharp passing, and good spacing allowed the Greenwaves to maintain a steady attack on the Mustang goal. At 23:04 Zack Brown, off an assist by Quintin Franke, put a perfectly placed ball past the defending keeper for the first score.

Muldraugh hosts annual cross-country meet

Muldraugh held its annual cross-country meet Sept. 8, through the streets of Muldraugh. The boy’s competition was heated with Ekron’s Jacob Robertson just pulling away from Muldraugh’s Seth Davis in the last few hundred feet. Both boys ran side by side the entire race until Jacob finally put on an extra burst of speed to pass Seth.

In the girl’s race, Flaherty’s Danielle Fabel outlasted her teammate, Sierra Watkins.

Lady Waves fall in district match

After getting off to their best start in seven years, the Meade County Lady Wave soccer team ran into a bump in the road when they traveled to Central Hardin to take on the 25th-ranked Bruins.

“My hat’s off to Central Hardin,” Shook said. “They played a great game. I thought this game could be much closer. After a win over North Hardin (4-1 on Sept. 2), they were ready to come in and give Central Hardin a game. We were out-manned pretty well tonight.”
