Two-alarm Cain Road garage fire thwarted by mailman

An alert mailman deserves praise for calling in a two-alarm fire Nov. 17, at 300 M. Cain Road. Meade County Fire Protection District fire chief Larry Naser, seen above with Muldraugh Fire Chief Dan Dresel, said the fire was reported at 1:43 p.m. and the first engine arrived on scene at 1:48 p.m. Firefighters had the blaze under control at 1:54 p.m. and cleared the scene at 2:27 p.m. Right, a firefighter sprays water onto the garage in an effort to cool the hot siding. MCFPD had four apparatus respond with nine members, Muldraugh responded with two apparatus and five members, and Flaherty was responding with three apparatus and five members. Meade County EMS was also on scene. Naser said the fire started on the front wall of the garage at or near an electrical outlet on the wall’s lower section. The fire spread up and involved a rafter assembly overhead. The fire’s horizontal spread was contained by the garage door headers located on each side. The fire is expected to be declared accidental in nature and resulted due to a failure of the electrical outlet. The outlet breaker tripped, leading Naser to believe it was shorting out or arching, causing the fire. No one was home at the time, but the father of the property owner, who works for Louisville Gas and Electric, arrived at the scene, but was in far northwestern Meade County when the call came in.

10th annual Irvington Christmas
Bazaar and parade

The City of Irvington presented its 10th annual Christmas Bazaar and parade Nov. 21. The bazaar was held at the train depot and featured a silent auction, eight booths with baked goods, fall and Christmas decorations and various handmade crafts. A delicious meal of vegetable and potato soup and chili were served to patrons of the event, which is sponsored by the Irvington Heritage Council and the Main Street Council. At dusk, an hour-long Christmas parade was enjoyed by the huge crowd of residents that lined Main Street.

Parents of children in the Preschool program are cautioned to have contingency plans for their children in the event weather alters their noon bus schedules. Weather conditions may dictate running snow routes when school is released early.
