Is this the year? By SAM MORRISON

After last year’s heartbreak at the regional tournament, the Meade County Greenwave golf team is preparing to make another run at the regional crown and a birth in the state tournament.
This year’s team returns two players with revenge in their minds – senior Tyler Yates and sophomore Chase Garris. Coach Josh Thompson believes that this year’s team success will be heavily burdened by the two returning men.
“Both of those boys know just as well as I do that their score is the strength of our team,” Thompson commented. “We have some good young talent, but if we are to be successful, they need their “A” game day in and day out.”
So far this year, Yates has been averaging a 76.5 in his two 18-hole tournaments, while Garris has struggled with an 83.5 average in the same tournaments.
“Tyler has done a very good job grinding through his tough holes and converting on opportunities. Chase, on the other hand, needs to remember his strengths and stay patient. He knows what he can do and all it can take is one good round and he is back.”
The three, four and five spot according to Thompson is going to be the biggest question mark.
“We have several kids that are capable of posting the scores we need,” Thompson added. “Blake Hardesty, Garrett Deaton, Brian Carter, Chad Lancaster, Dustin McMahan, and Aaron Ford are all competing for these spots.
