Following its successful integration of The American Pavilion earlier in the year, IndieWire has seen significant growth, highlighted by a notable presence at the 2026 Cannes International Film Festival. This summit is part of a broader initiative to enhance IndieWire and The American Pavilion’s programming throughout the year.
Leadership on the Move
With these new developments, there have also been exciting changes in IndieWire’s leadership. Lynne Howard, formerly the Senior Vice President of The American Pavilion, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Operations at IndieWire. In her expanded role, Howard will oversee all of IndieWire’s marketing and event initiatives, including the prestigious Cannes Film Festival presentations.
Additionally, Jessica Hokanson has stepped up as IndieWire’s Manager of Creative Marketing & Event Operations. Her new role will encompass overseeing marketing strategies for IndieWire’s various events, sales, and student-oriented programs, ensuring each initiative aligns with IndieWire’s mission to lead conversations around the future of film.
Reflecting on Past Successes
The inaugural IndieWire Future of Filmmaking Summit, held in 2024, set a high standard for what’s to come. The event was highlighted by a keynote discussion with Sean Baker, celebrated for his film “Anora” and his notable sweep at the Oscars. His journey provided invaluable insights into reaching the pinnacle of independent filmmaking. The previous summit also tackled a wide array of topics, from innovative financing and distribution strategies to the use of AI in creating cinematic content.
As IndieWire continues to expand its influence and resources, the upcoming summit not only aims to build on these past successes but also to introduce more dynamic and forward-thinking elements into the world of filmmaking.
