Lack of rain cause for concern for local farmers

The earth is dry, hard, and cracked, and it seems there is no end in sight to this summer’s hot weather and drought conditions. The occasional thunderstorm is helpful but doesn’t provide enough relief to thirsty soil to really make a dent in the problem. Lawns normally a vibrant green are unattractive shades of brown, and most varieties of seasonal flowers are feeling the effects. Heat advisories have been posted on numerous occasions throughout the summer, warning everyone – especially the very young and old – to stay out of situations that could cause heat stroke or exhaustion.
