Meade County’s abandoned properties exist due to ordinance with no teeth

As of Sept. 8, Judge Executive Haynes had still not responded to County Attorney Darren Sipes’ Aug. 31 letter (see letter from Sipes to Haynes on the forum page of the Sept. 7 issue of the Messenger) in which Sipes details the lack of enforcement of Meade County’s Abandoned Property ordinance and requests Judge Executive Haynes’ immediate attention to the matter. Simply put, Haynes has not yet taken any steps to appoint a code enforcement officer for Meade County’s Abandoned Property Ordinance. Thus, the county has an unenforceable ordinance – an ordinance with no teeth.

City of Muldraugh addresses storm water regulations

A special meeting of the Muldraugh City Council was held Aug. 26. Present were Mayor Danny Tate and councilmen Irvin Davis, Donnie Basham, Ron Heschke and Curtis Kelley. Also at the meeting were Radcliff Public Works supervisor Harold Brown, Radcliff engineer Ed Basquill and Hazem Gabr with the Kentucky Division of Water. Riverport Authority defers decision on land acquisition

The Meade County Riverport Authority opened its regular monthly meeting Sept. 6 with all members – George Hager, Clark Hardsaw, Kenny Jenkins, Edd Pike, Joe Wright and chairman Don Bewley – in attendance. After dispensing with approval of the minutes, they went into executive session to discuss land acquisition and rights-of-way. David Pace, chairman of the Meade County-Brandenburg Industrial Authority, as well as Judge Executive William Haynes and Magistrates Herbie Chism and Jamie Staples, joined the commissioners behind closed doors. Upon returning to open session, the commissioners agreed to delay any action until the next meeting.

Board of Adjustments approves variance and conditional use permit

The Meade County Board of Adjustments held its monthly meeting on Sept. 7. Present were board members Louis Crawford and Joe Hobbs.

Paving pleases Ekron population

People driving in Ekron lately may have encountered road work obstacles or gotten a little tar on their car, but residents are pleased with the new paving according to the town board members at the monthly meeting on Sept. 6.

Lynn announces funding for Meade County Sheriff
