109 Board increases monthly rate

The Meade County Solid Waste and Recycling board of directors (the 109 Board) held a special called meeting Oct. 4. The first item on the agenda was a proposed rate increase. During a working session with Fiscal Court, the magistrates indicated they felt a $12 rate was more reasonable than the $13 per month rate proposed by the 109 Board. Chairman Bim Wardrip said he felt they could survive on the $12, but they wouldn’t gain anything and would be back in a year asking for another increase in light of rising landfill and other costs. Solid waste coordinator Wanda Terrell indicated she also expected insurance costs to rise exponentially in the wake of the hurricanes which devastated the Gulf Coast. She also advised that solid waste disposal companies in neighboring counties are charging between $14 and $15 per month. Click Here For Full Story
