Meade County tax bills are in the mail
If you don’t receive yours, contact the Meade County Sheriff’s Department

According to Meade County Sheriff Clifford L. Wise the 2005 Property Tax Bills have been mailed. This year’s real and tangible personal property collections total $8,634,053.24. This represents approximately an 11-percent increase from the 2004 total of $7.8 million.

For 2005 two major changes have occurred: the Payneville Fire Protection District has been added, and the residents of the City of Brandenburg have been annexed by the Meade County Fire Protection District, resulting in additional taxes due.

Sheriff Wise reminds Meade County taxpayers that tax bills are mailed directly to the owner of record as of Jan. 1, 2005. Property owners with mortgage escrow accounts for the payment of taxes are responsible for forwarding the bill to them. If the property for which you have been billed is no longer owned by you, either forward the bill to the new owner or contact the sheriff’s office with the name and address of the new owner as soon as possible.

With readdressing underway to accommodate the Enhanced 911 Dispatch System, all property owners are reminded to contact the sheriff’s office at (270) 422-4937 if they do not receive their property tax bill. Sheriff Wise stated new addresses, particularly those in Doe Valley, may not match the address on the tax bill.
