Breaking ground at Veterans’ Cemetery in Radcliff

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Central Kentucky Veterans’ Cemetery was held Nov. 18 at the new cemetery site on Illinois Road in Radcliff. This Radcliff land was at one time part of Fort Knox but was donated to the Department of Veterans Affairs.Click Here For Full Story

Grandfathering and term limits on agenda at Meade PZ

Magistrate Don Callecod addressed the Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission during its regular meeting Nov. 17. It had come to his attention that the commissioners were not rotating off as they should be, and he advised them of the proposal he would make to Fiscal Court regarding how to address the situation. Callecod will move that terms end each year on June 30, and terms will expire on a staggered basis. Callecod provided each commissioner with a copy of the proposed motion which included term expiration dates for each sitting member. Click Here For Full Story

Meade County Water District plans ahead

Meade County Water District Chairman Doug Cornett welcomed Quest representatives Robert Sturdivant and Brent Tippey to the special Nov. 17 MCWD board meeting. MCWD general manager Joe Bartley had contacted Lexington based Quest Engineers Inc. for a master plan water system proposal that would ensure that future water needs of Meade County customers would be met. Bartley explained the MCWD had a good history with Quest services.

Can a code enforcement officer serve as constable?

Tangled up within the great debate over Meade County’s abandoned property ordinance is the issue whether C. H. Schaffner can be employed as code enforcement officer by Fiscal Court and at the same time hold the elected position of constable. Some individuals contend this is a conflict of interest.

Brandenburg City Council discusses building inspection, purchase of new police car

The Brandenburg City Council held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 14. Mayor Ronnie Joyner welcomed visitor Ron Reinscheld to the meeting and invited him to speak. Reinscheld indicated he does construction all over the region and in every other place he works, there is a building inspector, and he feels there should be a building inspector in Brandenburg. This comment led to discussion about a resident who has undertaken a construction project without a building permit. The resident has since applied for a permit, but he cannot obtain one as he is out of compliance. Joyner stated he would address the issue with the resident. In regard to Reinscheld’s comment, Joyner said the Planning and Zoning Commission would need to set guidelines, particularly regarding at what stages building inspections would need to take place.
