The Natchez, New Orleans’ only steam-powered paddlewheeler, passed by Meade County last week on her Hurricane River Relief Tour. The Natchez had made stops in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Louisville, where she bested the Belle of Louisville in the Great River Relief Steamboat Race. Events on the Natchez include jazz brunches and dinners featuring the Dukes of Dixieland with New Orleans vocalists Luther Kent and The Pfister Sisters, some of the great chefs of New Orleans and cooking demonstrations. Proceeds from the River Relief Tour benefit the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund.
