On Tuesday, Oct. 25, Library Director James Mitchell met in a special called meeting with Trustees Sandra Stone, Joe Sipes, Tony Black, Ruth Fisk and Debbie Jones to discuss monthly business. The treasurer’s report showed a checking account balance of $111,516.66. CD’S totaled $162,897.06.
Mitchell’s report described a wide range of activities for all ages at the library. Unfortunately, the final summer concert on Sunday, Oct.23, was poorly attended due to bad weather. This was the third straight concert dampened by the effects of the hurricanes down south.
Published author, Ben Woods, will be speaking about publishing and technology with the library’s writing group.
In the spirit of the season, the spooky stories told by Mary Hamilton drew over 100 listeners to David T. Wilson School, host of this library sponsored event. A ghost hunter was coming to present her program at the library that evening.
There were over 20 patrons at the first in a series of movies for teens at the library and there will be another Yu-Gi-Oh tournament in November.
Meade County’s Step Forward Program will join with the library to offer a special reading program in conjunction with National Literacy Week beginning on Nov. 1. The art class will be ending in November, but surveys are being taken to determine the focus in the new year. January 2006 will also see the kickoff of the “Great Start Program.” This series will focus on topics of interest to prenatal parents and new parents of children three and under. A grant will fund this program which will partner with the Meade County Health Department and other groups.
You may find it easier to locate nonfiction when you visit the library since the juvenile books have been separated from the adult ones.
The board had very positive comments about the Oct. 12 work day with the architects. The general agreement was that all three had some very interesting ideas that could be put to good use in the future.
