Disaster averted after truck overturned on KY 228

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Dec. 1 a truck hauling ammonium nitrate, diesel fuel and acetic acid turned over on KY 228 near Battletown, losing about 1,500 pounds of ammonium nitrate and 10 to 15 gallons of diesel fuel.

Meade County Fiscal Court to purchase Arch property

It took two nights of special meetings after months of deliberations and an approaching Dec. 31 deadline, but Meade County Fiscal Court came out of closed session on Nov. 30 to take action on a property acquisition resolution. In a bipartisan effort the entire court approved Magistrate Dan Callecod’s motion to acquire 550 acres from Arch for an industrial development area and riverport. Click Here For Full Story


Industrial Authority announces intent to purchase land; public hearing slated
for Dec. 13

The Meade County-Brandenburg Industrial Authority and Meade County Fiscal Court have reached an agreement with Arch Chemicals to purchase approximately 550 acres for the future development of a transmodal park, according to David Pace, chair of the Industrial Authority. The location will make possible import and export of goods and materials via rail, water and highway, said Pace, an added attraction to potential industry the Authority has not had before. Muldraugh City business screeches to a halt when council members exit meeting

The November meeting of the Muldraugh City Council began with the mayor and all six council members present; however, three council members walked out of the meeting before the entirety of the evening’s business could be concluded. Present at the beginning of the meeting were Mayor Danny Tate and council members Curtis Kelley, Ron Heschke, Dean Dresel, Irvin Davis, Donnie Basham, and Linda Toler. Click Here For Full Story


Conservation District provides cost-share activity update

‘Ghost of Kentucky’ author to speak at Meade County Public Library

Dr. Lynwood Montell, author and retired Western Kentucky University folklore professor, will be at the library on Dec. 20 to talk about his popular book series, “Ghosts in Kentucky.” If you love to listen to your friends and relatives tell family ghost stories, you should attend this event.

Driving for a cure: Reserve your Kentucky breast cancer awareness plate today

FRANKFORT – Legislation adopted by the 2005 General Assembly allows designation of official state license plates by nonprofit organizations that can obtain at least 900 advance orders. In one of its most ambitious campaigns to date, the Kentucky Breast Cancer Alliance undertook the task of establishing the Kentucky Breast Cancer Awareness license plate.
