It’s official – election season has begun
The deadline for individuals wishing to run for office in the 2006 primary was 4 p.m. Jan. 31. Following on the heels of that deadline was the random drawing for ballot position at the Meade County Courthouse. Meade County Court Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald and deputy clerk Judy Jordan officiated the 2 p.m. drawing Thursday afternoon, an event which attracted about a dozen interested spectators. MCHS Athletic Hall of Fame induct new members
On Saturday Feb. 4, Meade County High School inducted three new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the Lady Waves’ home basketball game verses Fort Knox. Inductees include Bobby Pollock, Dan Powers, and Gary Timberlake.Click Here For Full Story

If you’ve been following reports about the upcoming changes at Fort Knox, you’ve read the present number of soldiers and civilians assigned to Fort Knox is projected to grow quite rapidly between now and 2011. Maj. Gen. Robert Williams, the post’s new commander, said the number of soldiers and civilians assigned to Fort Knox will increase by about 1,000 to 23,000 by 2011. However, the new soldiers will be permanently stationed at Fort Knox and will replace the thousands who presently train at Fort Knox for several weeks or months and are then reassigned elsewhere. The new people will be here to stay and their presence will have an effect on our local economy.

Messenger welcomes two sportswriters

With the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, a partnership between the journalism class at Meade County High School and the Meade County Messenger has given students an opportunity to gain “real world” experience. Shannon Anderson, in her first year of teaching journalism at Meade County High School, approached Roxann Curts, general manager of the Messenger, about the possibility of a partnership between her class and the community newspaper, and she has worked hard to ensure that partnership remains strong. She requires her students to submit at least one article to the Messenger each grading period as part of their grade and encourages them to write about topics of interest to the community at large as well as to their peers.
