Riverport Authority discusses timeline

The Feb. 7 regular monthly meeting of the Meade County Riverport Authority began with an update from David Pace, chairman of the Industrial Development Authority, regarding the 550 acres recently purchased from Arch Chemicals. The lease for the Riverport Authority moves with the owner of the property, so the Riverport now has a lease agreement with the county rather than Arch. Pace advised MSE has been contracted to design a development plan for the property. He further advised MSE had been shown the roads to the riverport as previously designed. Riverport Authority chair Don Bewley thanked Pace for sharing that information MSE, noting that funds had already been expended to design that road. A meeting between the Industrial Authority and the Riverport Authority will be scheduled once development plans have been drawn up. Bewley said it was imperative to get the road built into the port, to which Pace replied that construction roads are already in place and available. Click Here For Full Story

Who’s minding the store?
– And other points to ponder

When we last tuned in to an episode of Meade County’s Abandoned Property Ordinance, our ordinance was still “missing in action.” Judge-Executive Bill Haynes hadn’t appointed an enforcement officer to enforce it. Instead, he planned to re-write the ordinance and present it at the September Fiscal Court meeting. The ordinance was on the agenda but was passed over and never seen or heard from again. Ekron to rename streets for E-911

Officer Bill Lacy introduced the new county E-911 service to members of the Ekron City Commission at their regular February meeting Tuesday night. He explained that every address in the county has to be standardized in a system of one thousand address points per mile with even numbered addresses on the right side of the road and odd numbers on the left. The roads must also fit certain criteria so that there will be no confusion with similar names or unclear locations. Based on these conditions, all but one street in Ekron would need to be renamed.
