Meade County Water District general manager Joe Bartley said that a “good thing” seems to be going on in Meade County lately with increasing calls from developers interested in obtaining water hookups. Bartley said he did not know if it could be attributed to the base realignment (BRAC) issue, but things seem to be “moving.”

In the public session of the March 21 board meeting, Joe Redmon questioned the board about connecting to water lines he is having installed on his property beyond Vinson Road off Battletown Road. Bartley assured him that it should not be a problem after the plans are approved.

Bartley reported that all of the Phase VI easements have been approved with only about five percent on the right of way. Bids should be accepted next month and the work would start in July and be finished before fall. He stated that he should find out next week how much more money would be available from Frankfort to cover Phase VI and Phase VII costs.

A request at the last board meeting from Kathy Baker for water lines on Woodland Road was studied and met the requirements. It will be taken on as an inhouse project. The Simpson Lane development meets the standard criteria and will be accepted after plan approval.

The MCWD office will move to begin credit card processing in early to mid-April. The current total number of customers is 3,415 with seven new meters set in the short month of February. This month’s deposits for water sales, hookups, service charges, etc. totaled $130,995.93 with the current revenue account at $538,245.77. The operation and maintenance account which includes payroll, vehicle repairs, line repairs, buying water, debt service and capital improvement had a February balance of $24,198.15. The contingency account used for inhouse projects and large item purchases such as the new $56,544 backhoe contained $117,928.04. The deposit account used to refund customer deposits had a $48,650.56 balance. The debt service account used to pay on current loans stands at $104,217.64. Finally, the reserve account required by Rural Development regulations to have a balance of at least $31,200 held $33,062.40.

A planning session for Phase VIII will be held at 6 p.m. on April 18, followed by the monthly board meeting at 7 p.m. Public input can be made by phone or in person.
