CANAM three-peat for MCHS cheerleaders
After back-to-back wins at the CANAM International Cheer and Dance Competition in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the question loomed large for the Meade County High School coed varsity squad: Could they make it a three-peat? Meade County Fiscal Court discusses Lapland Road
County clerk Katrina Fitzgerald appeared at a March 23 special called meeting of the Fiscal Court with three requests in order to better prepare the county for the coming elections. First, she explained the need for an extra E-slate disabled access voting unit with booth plus an extra judge’s booth controller to be used as backups on Election Day. The purchase of a DEMO E-slate capable of easy transportation for demonstrations was included in the request but not essential, Fitzgerald added. Each item cost $2,500. Click Here For Full Story
National recognition for Meade County archery
 Members from the Meade County High School and Battletown Elementary School archery teams traveled to Louisville March 16 for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state and national tournament. Transportation Cabinet to remove illegal signs on state right of way
ELIZABETHTOWN – The Transportation Cabinet has begun removing signs illegally placed on state right of way in the 11-county area of District 4. District 4 includes Breckinridge, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor and Washington counties. Click Here For Full Story
Anthony to be new MCFPD treasurer
Meade County Fire Protection District treasurer Bruno Ilario recommended trustee Jim Anthony as his replacement at the monthly board meeting Tuesday night, March 20. Anthony accepted and was voted in unanimously. Click Here For Full Story
Meade County Public Library to provide online tutoring service
At the March meeting of the library board, Director James Mitchell reported that a homework help service called tutor.com will be available to students from grades 4 through 12 through the library’s Web site. Lincoln Trail Regional librarian Nelda Moore added that all of the subscribing libraries, especially Paducah, had been very pleased with the service. Meade County’s district facilities plan heads to KDE
“We’ve tried to think of everything we would need as enrollment shifts and grows, to be as forward planning as possible.” That was the comment of Mitch Crump, superintendent of Meade County Schools, during a March 23 public hearing. The purpose of the hearing was to receive and document testimony regarding the facilities plan. There were no public comments, nor had there been any written testimony submitted for the hearing. Meade County Water district experiencing growth
Meade County Water District general manager Joe Bartley said that a “good thing” seems to be going on in Meade County lately with increasing calls from developers interested in obtaining water hookups. Bartley said he did not know if it could be attributed to the base realignment (BRAC) issue, but things seem to be “moving.”
