BRAC, Barron and the future of Fort Knox

“He’s a real warrior in making known the value of Fort Knox,” said Russ Powell of Maj. Gen William E. Barron (retired) of the U.S. Army Reserve. Powell, executive director of the Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Barron, keynote speaker for the Chamber’s annual awards and leadership installation dinner. “Major Barron is a key person in making sure Fort Knox continues to benefit Fort Knox and the surrounding communities.”

Industrial Development Authority reviews working document, awaits master plan

The Meade County/Branden-burg Industrial Development Authority held their quarterly meeting March 28. Judge Executive William Haynes, Brandenburg Mayor Ronnie Joyner and Magistrates Herbie Chism and Harold Davidson were in attendance along with Authority members Carl Austin, Harry Lee Lusk, Rick Myers, Jeanna Turner and chair David Pace.

Meade County Equine Society forms

The group of citizens concerned about the humane treatment of horses in Meade County held a meeting on March 28. In attendance were: Nancy Kaufman, Vickey Carwile, Mary Ruth Stephenson, Stephanie Lynch, Mike Broadus, Sandy Broadus, Debbie Johnson, Ilissa Stauffer, Rita Mills, Judy Brown, Pete Perales, Deb Sobel, Eric Granberry, and Matt Fackler. Magistrate Don Callecod also attended the meeting.

Planning and Zoning approves development plan for general store, tables request for daycare

The Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission met March 16 with members Allen Flaherty, Sonja Redmon, Mildred Brown and Lawrence Sechrist in attendance.

Counterfeit bills circulating in Brandenburg

The Brandenburg Police Department is warning local businesses and the community of counterfeit money being circulated throughout Brandenburg. There have been $50 bills used at several area businesses. The bills do not have security strips or holograms, and the color and texture will appear different from a legitimate bill.

Conservation District proceeds with field day plans

The board of supervisors for the Meade County Conservation District held its regular monthly meeting on March 27. Present were Joe Barger, Nathan Beavin, John Bruington, Jack King, Henry Pike, Jim Scott, and Fred L. Sipes, as well as Conservation District employees Calvin Bohannon, Liz Hawkins, Charlotte Lawson and B.J. Stith.

Kentucky Court of Appeals will hear cases in Brandenburg April 11

OWENSBORO – A three-judge panel of the Kentucky Court of Appeals will conduct oral arguments in Brandenburg April 11. The oral arguments will be held in the circuit courtroom, Meade County Courthouse, 516 Fairway Drive. The panel will consist of Jeff S. Taylor of Owensboro, Julia Tackett of Lexington, and Senior Judge Thomas Emberton of Edmonton. This will be the first time the Court of Appeals has conducted oral arguments in Meade County. The proceedings are open to the public. The case docket includes:
