BRAC road shows may attract new people to Meade County

During the month of March, several representatives from Meade County attended BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) road shows held in Indianapolis, Ind.; St. Louis, Mo.; Alexandria, Virginia; Fort Monroe, Virginia; and Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The road show was coordinated by Fort Knox and One Knox, which is a group designed to facilitate planning for growth associated with Fort Knox’s realignment. Its current emphasis is to provide potential newcomers to Fort Knox with information about the areas surrounding the military post.

BRAC and Meade County schools

On Nov. 8, 2005, there was the very real possibility that Fort Knox would close. On Nov. 9, 2005, that picture changed dramatically. Ekron Commission to rebid projects

Commissioner Terry Trent chaired the routine monthly meeting of the Ekron City Commission on April 4 in the absence of Mayor Gwynne Ison. The primary item of discussion was the bids for two projects in the city. That business also presented a written bid for a tree removal on Chism Way amounting to $900. A $750 verbal bid from Townsend Tree Removal Company was listed on the agenda. Members of the commission discussed the fact that none of the bids had enough details and asked Commissioner Don Ison to list specs and advertise the jobs again.

Who’s minding the store?
– And other points to ponder

Perhaps I shouldn’t have been as surprised as I was, but I recently found an entire neighborhood chock full of violations. The abundance of violations came to light due to a phone call from “Mr. X,” who reported too many horses and too many goats on too little acreage and in a subdivision where it appears there shouldn’t be any livestock in the first place. And the violation ball simply rolled from there when I took a ride through Mr. X’s neighborhood and discovered there are several more violations that have received complaints.
