Industrial Authority awards bids, reviews preliminary road plan

The Meade County/Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority held a special called meeting April 25. The big news was the option signing with Don Martin, president of Agri Fuels, LLC, the week before. The first option, said chairman David Pace, is for Dec. 31, 2006, on 57 of the 90 acres. This will be the site of the plant itself. The second option is slated for March 2007. This 33-acre tract will be used for railroad track and loading areas. Martin is currently working on funding and permitting for the planned ethanol plant. “We’re excited about it,” said Pace. “It really does look good.”


Seems there’s little excuse not to vote in the May 16 primary

The May 16 primary election is upon us and with all the voting options there are this year, there appears to be little to no excuse not to get out and cast that important vote.


Eagle Scout holds Court of Honor

On April 24, an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held for two members of Boy Scout Troop 150 – Bradley Faber and Adam Stockman.


Meade County Public Library summer reading sign-ups May 8-13

At a special called meeting of the board on April 25, Meade County Public Library director James Mitchell reported that the ever popular summer reading program directed by children’s librarian Britney Calisi will be June 5-29. Anyone wanting to attend must register during regular library hours from May 8 to 13. This year’s theme is “Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales.” Mitchell added that an adult summer reading program is also in the works for June.


Board of Adjustments approves two more outbuilding variances

The Meade County Board of Adjustments held a special-called meeting on April 26. Present were board chairman Jess Mills, zoning administrator Barbara Campbell, and board members Louis Crawford and Joe Hobbs.


Conservation District plants trees in recognition of Arbor Day

In honor of Arbor Day, the Meade County Conservation District board of directors planted two pear trees by the EMS Station in Payneville.

The Meade County Conservation District held its regular monthly meeting on April 24. Present were chairman John Bruington and board members Fred L. Sipes, Nathan Beavin, Henry Pike, and Jack King. Absent were Jim Scott and Joe Barger. Also in attendance were employees Charlotte Lawson, Liz Hawkins, B.J. Stith, and Calvin Bohannon.

– And other points to ponder

There are many of us who don’t bother to vote or are uninformed voters. At one time, truth be known, I was one of these people. In recent years, however, I’ve learned firsthand the importance of casting my vote. Or should I say more like the importance of casting an educated vote.
