Ekron City Commissioner Don Ison asked at the May meeting that something be done about the abandoned property on Reese Avenue. Mayor Gwynne Ison and the other commissioners agreed that it was an eyesore and potentially dangerous. The mayor directed secretary Sandy Adams to see if the owner could be found, and to contact the county attorney about legal options if the city cleaned it up and requested reimbursement.
Magistrate Harold Davidson stated that he would be ordering 16 road signs to replace street names changed for E911 requirements. He assured the commissioners that a letter explaining the changes would be sent to all residents with new addresses after the street signs were installed.
Mayor Ison was happy to report that the drainage problem near Miles Farm Supply Center should be ending. The store is paying Snyder Construction Company to install a drainage bore under the street.
The mayor was also pleased with the tree removal done by the Townsend Tree Service for $750.
The single bid of $31,280 from JTH Enterprise, LLC for sidewalk construction along West Alley was not accepted, so the project will be advertised for rebid.
Discussion about an Ekron resident operating a lawn mower repair service ended with the decision that he needed to apply for a business license.
Commissioner Joyce McHolan asked if the basketball goal had been purchased for the park. Don Ison replied that he was still checking on standards in order to get one that would stand up to public use.
Ekron treasurer Larry Berry reported a balance of $49,174.64 in the First Federal Savings Bank account. The Meade County Bank account balance showed $2,250.28.
