Yes, Meade Countian, your vote does count

In preparation for the 2006 Primary Election, we took a look back at the last countywide election in 2002. Numbers told a real story in that election and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that every vote does count. The race for Meade County judge executive was decided by fewer than 100 votes, as were the races in three magisterial districts. Every vote does count.

Abandoned property an Ekron eyesore

Ekron City Commissioner Don Ison asked at the May meeting that something be done about the abandoned property on Reese Avenue. Mayor Gwynne Ison and the other commissioners agreed that it was an eyesore and potentially dangerous. The mayor directed secretary Sandy Adams to see if the owner could be found, and to contact the county attorney about legal options if the city cleaned it up and requested reimbursement.

While months have passed since Hurricane Katrina and its resultant flooding devastated New Orleans and surrounding cities, the area is still very much in a post-disaster state. Much work remains to be done before people can truly begin to rebuild their lives.

Who’s minding the store?
– And other points to ponder

I’ve been wondering how Meade County is doing with collecting its Meade County Solid Waste (MCSW) and Recycle monthly fees. In the past, there were a number of people who flatly refused to pay. To learn more about what’s going on with bill payment and collections, during the month of March I submitted an open records request to MCSW. Below are my questions as well as answers provided by the MCSW coordinator, which were also approved by the 109 Board. I’ve adjusted the format of some of the answers but not the content of the answers.
