Prom – then and now

You often hear of a girl wearing her mother’s or grandmother’s wedding dress, but not too often do your hear of her wearing her grandma’s prom dress. A few weeks ago when high school junior Alex Weick and her sister, Winnie, were visiting their grandmother, Liz Weick, the subject of prom dresses came up. Grandma Liz happened to mention that she still had her prom dress. Alex, who loves the movie “Gone With the Wind,” fell in love with the southern belle style of the dress. With the help of a talented local seamstress, Ann Duncan, who made the necessary alterations, Alex became a southern belle in her grandmother’s 47-year-old prom dress.
