Meade County breast cancer survivors attend ‘Celebration of Hope’

A “Celebration of Hope” tea and reception for Kentucky breast cancer survivors was held by first lady Glenna Fletcher at the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort on May 1. The event was held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in a huge, white tent on the grounds of the mansion. Mrs. Fletcher said it was a kick-off for Derby week.

Many new fun activities planned for Relay for Life

Both old and new activities will be enjoyed at this year’s American Cancer Society’s Meade County Relay for Life, to be held at Meade County High School’s track and field from 6 p.m. Saturday, May 20 until 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 21.

Derby excitement at Muldraugh Elementary

The students and staff of Muldraugh Elementary celebrated the Kentucky Derby by having a hat parade. The PTO purchased everyone a hat to decorate, and the results were magnificent. The hats captured the Derby spirit and most resembled the unique and creative hats often seen at Kentucky’s most famous sporting event.

Students in Mrs. Reesor’s 6th-grade science class at David T. Wilson Elementary experimented with several types and colors of dyed paper to see which responded to chlorine bleach.

SPMS Idol finalists prepare to earn votes (and cash) for Relay for Life

SPMS Idol held their first Idol tryouts April 29. Those who turned out were nervous. They practiced in Quality Court and were then called to the music room where they each performed in front of our judges.
