To the Messenger:
The primary is over and many things are happening in county government.
At one of the charter meetings of MCES attended by both Magistrate Padgett and myself I spoke of a request made by the MC ACO concerning amending the MC Animal Control Ordinance and our desire for input from the residents of Meade County, a fact that Mrs. Kennedy failed to include in her article.
Magistrate Padgett and I have been tasked with finding a way to add larger animals to the animal control ordinance without interfering with the farmer’s right to raise livestock.
This is no simple task in that the planning and zoning ordinance defines all animals with hooves as livestock and the raising of any livestock as agriculture. Whereas most of the problems encountered to date have been related to the raising, care and/or mistreatment of horses, we need to find a way to address equines separately and thereby not interfere with a breeder or farmer’s right to raise livestock. There is also a need to address “Dry Lot Stables” outside of subdivisions.
King Solomon I am not and your assistance is greatly needed to address this properly.
I am calling for any suggestions, recommendations, papers and/or sample ordinances that we might be able to use in crafting this ordinance. They may be sent to Theresa Padgett at 325 Kirchdorfer Ln, Brandenburg, KY 40108 e-mail Theresa_Padgett@yahoo.com (please note there is an underscore between the words Theresa_ Padgett) 422-7949 or Don Callecod, 220 Russell Rd, Flaherty, KY 40175 e-mail dondonna@ispky.com 828-8262 or 877-5514.
Thanking you in advance for any and all assistance.
Don Callecod
Magistrate 3rd District
