Ballot positions drawn for nonpartisan races

Except for representatives of the local media and one mayoral candidate, the courthouse lobby was empty as Meade County Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald drew the names for ballot positions for the nonpartisan elections to be held Nov. 7.


Meade County Planning and Zoning Comprehensive Plan still a problem

Planning and Zoning Administrator Barbara Campbell presented only one recommendation to the Fiscal Court at its regular August meeting. The commission recommended denying a zoning change from R/1 (residential) to A/2 (agricultural) on 17+ acres owned by Larry and Dianna Pendleton of Meade Springs Road. They planned to run a pig operation and add a manufactured mobile home as an additional residence for the farm operation. Eleven neighboring land owners had attended the Planning & Zoning meeting to express concerns about the possible problems caused by runoff, water pollution, smell, disease, property values, etc. associated with these plans. Findings of fact by the commission showed the land is within the Urban Potential Growth area, in this case Brandenburg.


Meade County Fiscal Court hears father’s plea

The public session at the regular August meeting of the Meade County Fiscal Court began with an emotional plea from a distraught Randy Kelly for better emergency medical services in the county. Kelly described his feelings of helplessness when his son went into convulsions and stopped breathing as the father begged the EMT dispatcher to tell him what to do.


109 Board discharges employee; stands by previous decision regarding coordinator

The 109 Board held a special called meeting Aug. 7. Chairman Bim Wardrip called the meeting to order, and they immediately went into closed session per KRS 61.80, subsections (c) and (f).


The who, what and when of write-in votes

With only two candidates filing for Ekron City Council positions, at least two write-in candidates are needed to create a full council. Eligible persons may file as write-in candidates for any other race as well, provided they adhere to the Kentucky Revised Statute regarding write-in votes.


Board of Education updated on MCHS addition, reviews first day of school

The Meade County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Aug. 8, the first day of school. “The first day was outstanding,” said superintendent of schools Mitch Crump. “We went to every building, and everyone was very complimentary of how the day went. Current enrollment, including kindergarten, is 4,767.

Meade County continues to rank high in state’s child support collections

Meade County’s Child Support Office must be doing something right. Whatever it is, the office needs to keep doing it because its success numbers continue to rise.
