Industrial Authority considers requests from Hardesty and AgriFuels

Game warden Bob Marengo and Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Tony Brown attended the Sept. 12 meeting of the Meade County-Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority to address the issue of Jerry Hardesty’s deer. Hardesty is currently leasing the farmland on the 551-acre site of the future industrial park, and he is having a large problem with deer grazing and bedding down in his soybean fields. Previously, the Authority had declined to allow hunting on the property because of liability concerns.


109 Board discusses collections, equipment issues

A special called meeting of the 109 Board Sept. 11 opened with chairman Bim Wardrip requesting an explanation of why the meeting had to be changed from its regular night of the third Monday. Member Bill Hofmann said he would not have been able to attend a Sept. 18 meeting and stated he appreciated the board’s cooperation. Wardrip, expressed his frustration with the change, indicating he felt it wasn’t a very good reason and noting the change had inconvenienced the other board members, prevented the board’s attorney from being in attendance and resulted in the meeting being held in the solid waste office, rather than in the courtroom at the Meade County Courthouse where it is regularly held.


Fiscal Court holds another “interesting” meeting

Meade County Fiscal Court held its regular monthly meeting on Sept. 12, with Judge Executive Bill Haynes presiding and Magistrates Kent Allen, Don Callecod, Herbie Chism, Harold Davidson, Theresa Padgett, and Jamie Staples all in attendance.


Meade County Fiscal Court lets sleeping dogs continue to lie

The first reading of the revised Meade County Animal Care and Control Ordinance was missing from Meade County Fiscal Court’s Sept. 12 agenda, and a citizen in attendance at the meeting brought this oversight to the attention of the Court during public session.


Fiscal Court approves road name changes

As part of the effort to bring Meade County into the 21st Century with Enhanced 911 services, Meade County Fiscal Court has approved a number of road changes throughout the county. The changes are as follows


Brandenburg City Council appoints new police chief, approves rezoning request

The Brandenburg City Council held its regular monthly meeting Sept. 11.


Meade County Community Partners, a roundtable discussion of resources and programs available

After a long summer break, the Meade County Community Partners reconvened Sept. 14 to discuss services and resources offered to the citizens of Meade and surrounding counties. As is often the case, the members shared information in a roundtable format.


City of Brandenburg sets tax

The Brandenburg City Council held a special called meeting Sept. 14 to conduct the second readings of ordinances setting tax rates. The first readings of the ordinances had been conducted during the regular monthly meeting Sept. 11.
