The Meade County Board of Education held a special called meeting Sept. 27 at noon for the purpose of setting property tax rates for real property and personal property. School board members John Inman, Belinda Cross, Eugene Sheeran and Greg Beavin were in attendance.
Superintendent of schools Mitch Crump advised that recommended tax rates from the state are 52.1 cents per $100 assessed value on real property and 52.6 cents per $100 assessed value on personal property. This represents a projected four-percent increase in general fund tax revenue and a 5.7-cent “recallable nickel” that will be dedicated for construction and/or debt service.
Last year’s levy was 46.4 cents on real property and 46.9 cents on personal property. The proposed increase is 5.7 cents per $100 property valuation.
On a motion by Belinda Cross, seconded by Greg Beavin, the vote was unanimous in favor of accepting the recommended tax rates.
