“Elvis has left the building” and he’s been spotted at Pets in Need Society’s 5th Annual Pet Festival, which was held on Sept. 16 at Brandenburg City Park down by the river. Elvis’s (Pat Scott’s) dog Rusty was blessed by Rev. Janet Carden, associate pastor of Brandenburg United Methodist Church.

Approximately 200 people attended the Fifth Annual Pets In Need Society Pet Festival and Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Brandenburg City Park down by the Ohio River.

This year’s theme was “The Fabulous ’50s,” which brought out quite the array of poodle skirts, bobby socks, and rock and roll music. There was even an “Elvis sighting.”

Dogs, cats, rabbits, and their respective humans enjoyed the good fortune of absolutely beautiful weather. Boy Scout Troop #95 provided food for the festivities. Latifa Meena, a telepathic animal communicator, was present to help those interested in trying to communicate with their pets. This was the first year this was offered, and the lines were long. For a small fee, Meena let pet owners know what’s going on in the minds of their pets. Meena found the people here most interesting and plans to return to the festival again next year. So did the people of Meade County, some of whom had chills up their spine when Meena’s observations proved to be right on the money. Those interested in learning more about what Meena does should visit her site at www.animalscantalk.com.

The variety of contests held were enjoyed by all, but there sure was “A Whole Lot of Shakin’ Goin’ On” for the tail wagging contest. “Jinx” Cooper won out over the other eight dogs and a cat when her tail wagged so fast it was little more than a blur.

Rev. Janet Carden, associate pastor of Brandenburg United Methodist Church, conducted this year’s Blessing of the Animals with such elegance and reverence one would never know this was her first Blessing of the Animals service.

A highlight of the day was the drawing for the PINS annual raffle, which always awards some much-coveted prizes. This year’s winner of the two, round-trip airline tickets donated by Southwest Airlines was Cathy Haynes of Ekron. Other prizes included restaurant gift certificates, free services from local businesses, entertainment park tickets and more.
