Firefighters and Chiefs Association hosts 13th annual fire school

The Meade County Firefighters and Chiefs Association held its 13th annual fire school Oct. 7 and 8 with 171 students registered and over 20 staff members and instructors. Meade County firefighters and emergency services personnel were able to attend the fire school free of charge, thanks to a $1,500 grant from Meade County Fiscal Court.

Senior Citizens Center holds benefit auction; receives much-needed facelift

The Meade County Senior Citizens Center is holding a benefit auction on Oct. 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. Monies raised at this soup and sandwich benefit will go toward the nutritious meal program, Meals on Wheels, and the general funding of the building and its programs. The admittance fee for the event is just $5.

Ethanol – how is it used?

One customer – the Meade County Riverport Authority – was already on board before the 551-acre parcel adjacent to Arch Chemicals was purchased late last year for the purpose of developing an industrial park. Another customer – AgriFuels, LLC – was already expressing interest. Now, approximately eight months later, plans are in the works for AgriFuels to purchase a portion of this land for the purpose of building a 55 million-gallon ethanol plant. Preliminary design of the plant is slated to begin this fall.

Grim Reapers prepare for fourth annual toy run

The local chapter of the Grim Reapers is planning its fourth annual toy run in support of Meade County Community Action’s Christmas Angel program for needy children.

Native Meade County woman publishes book of poems

Becky (Bradley) Sears, a 1996 graduate of Meade County High School, recently fulfilled a personal dream and published her own book of poems. The book, entitled “An Unfamiliar Place”, is a collection of Sears’ original poetry and photographs.

PINS readies for wreath festivals

The Pets In Need Inc. (PINS) monthly meeting Sept. 25 heard from county attorney candidate Margaret Matney, approved a slate of officers for 2007, and planned for the Fort Knox Holiday Bazaar and Wreath Festival fundraisers.
