The Meade County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Oct. 10. Construction fund, accounts payable and salary payrolls were approved.
In reviewing the financial statements, it was noted the general fund receives totaled $1,758,146 for September with expenditures totaling $2,000,196. Grant fund salaries were paid with the first payroll of the school year. These funds are reimbursed as they are spent, so the district will begin receiving payments for them in October.
The BG-4 for final completion of the hail-damaged roof of the Meade County Area Technology Center was approved. A vendor change at the new elementary school was also approved. The block vendor was changed as the quality of the product was not up to expectations. There will be no additional cost to the district for this change.
The superintendent’s personnel report was accepted, and emergency certifications were approved. Sue Mitcham will receive emergency certification to teach a math class at the high school until January. At that time, the teacher hired for the job will be available.
Superintendent of schools Mitch Crump announced Meade County High School had received a Smaller Learning Communities grant. The first year of the five-year grant will be used for the freshman center opening with the 2007-2008 school year.
Field trips were approved as follows: MCHS journalism to Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 9-12 for the Journalism Education Association national convention; MCHS FBLA to Milwaukee, Wisc., Nov. 16-19 for the National Fall Leadership Conference; MCHS band to Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 8-12 for national competition; and MCHS FFA to Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 24-27 for the national convention. Crump noted Meade County FFA will be recognized as a gold star chapter at this year’s convention.
