Senior Citizens fundraiser nets over $2,500

Thanks in large part to the efforts of nutrition director Sondra Hinton and staff member Martha Beasley, an Oct. 15 fundraiser for the Meade County Senior Citizens was a huge success. Hinton made the rounds to area businesses requesting their support of the nutrition programs offered through the center, and Beasley gave her own time to pick up and prepare food for the event.
Meade County Senior Citizens Inc. board members also made the rounds to local businesses and individuals, requesting monetary donations and items donated to the auction held in conjunction with the dinner.
The fundraiser featured a soup, sandwich and dessert dinner which was enjoyed by over 100 people. They were also treated to an afternoon of gospel music performed by groups from Brandenburg Church of God and Zion Grove Baptist Church, Steve Robbins and Laura Dutschke and her group. An auction of donated items was also held.
At the end of the day over $2,500 was raised to provide for the upkeep of the Senior Citizens and building and to support its onsite nutrition program and Meals on Wheels.
The fundraiser was a labor of love for those who donated their time in the kitchen and on the serving lines and those who helped clean up after the event. Without dedicated board members, staff and volunteers and the support of a generous community, the Senior Citizens Center could not continue to provide a place for our senior citizens to gather for a hot meal and warm fellowship.
