Scott Robbins and Dean Hesse from Brandenburg hold their 3rd-place trophies and $5,000 cash prize.
RADCLIFF – Radcliff’s Gold City 3 fishing circuit, a division of Midwest Sportsman, sent 28 two-man teams to MidWest three-day national Team Classic on Kentucky/Barkley Lakes Oct. 4-6. To qualify for this event, two anglers paired up as teams and competed in a series of divisional tournaments throughout mid- America. The top 30 percent of each division then advanced to the national classic.
This year 334 teams competed in the classic for the first prize of two fully rigged 591 Nitro bass boats powered by 150 horsepower Optimax Mercury outboard engines. The top 10 teams with the most weight after the second
day’s fishing went on to the third day to compete for the top prizes with each team guaranteed bringing home a cash prize as a minimum. Gold City 3 had 14 teams qualify for the third day, and in the end brought home a prize.
The Elizabethtown team of Dave Pedigo and Gary Martin won the event with the total weight for a five fish limit of 16.83 lbs. and were awarded their prize valued at approximately $46,000. David Pedigo recounted the victorious day saying, “We had run so far south in Barkley from the State Dam Marina on Kentucky Lake that we had to stop on the way back to get fuel!” He went on to say, “We caught all the fish in a 100-yard area.”
Another Gold City 3 team – Dean Hesse and Scott Robbins of Brandenburg – came in third place with a total weight for a five fish limit of 13.23 lbs. They received a cash prize of $5,000. Dean said, “We also had made a long run to south Barkley.” Partner Scott added, “Our fish were caught when the bass started chasing schooling shad in the area we were fishing in.”

These teams qualified by fishing a series of tournaments on Barren, Rough and Nolin lakes from March-June this year as part of the Gold City 3 circuit. This is only Gold City 3’s second year as a fishing circuit, and these national results show they have attracted a very high caliber of anglers.
