Ethics Commission meets, continues to organize
By JOE REDMON
Messenger Staff
Ethics Commission board chair Joann Fitzgibbon and members Harold Fackler, Gloria Brady and Tim Gossett conducted another organizing special meeting of the commission Oct. 23. Members Tara Powers, Lamar Jones and Joe Bewley, were unable to attend. Most of the activity revolved around the agreement of those present upon internal procedures to review financial reports, to exempt people from filing financial disclosure forms for 2006 and to establish a standard procedure for notifying members of meetings.
As the commission continued to establish procedures and organize, it voted unanimously to officially ask assistance from the county attorney on legal procedures to execute upon notification of a complaint.
The commission also released the complaint initiation procedure to the public. All complaints should be in written form, addressed to the Meade County Ethics Commission, c/o Office of Judge Executive, Meade County Courthouse, 516 Fairway Dr., Brandenburg, KY 40108. All complaints must be sealed and should specify the date and times of alleged ethics violations with as much detail as can be provided. Complaints will remain sealed until opened by the Ethics Commission during a meeting. The complainant will then be notified by registered mail whether further action is warranted and the extent of said action regarding the complaint. The commission agreed to host its next formal public meeting on Nov. 13. when it will continue to organize and begin processing old complaints.
