Ethics Commission meets, continues to organize

Ethics Commission chair Joanne Fitzgibbon and commission members Harold Fackler, Gloria Brady, Lamar Jones, Joe Bewley, and Tim Gossett conducted another organizing special meeting of the commission Nov. 13. Member Tara Powers was absent.

Most of their activity revolved around the necessity to distribute financial disclosure forms to all elected officials and appointed officials responsible for public money, including the treasurer and deputy judge executive. There was general agreement all these individuals would likely be present during official swearing-in ceremonies in January. The expense of mailing these forms would be saved if the forms were distributed then. The form is said to take about 10 minutes to complete and will be given to officials directly.

The commission expects to receive at least one of the original almost 3-year-old complaints by its internal deadline and plans to review it at the next meeting, Nov. 27. This will enable the commission to determine relevant action and organize the procedures to undertake sometime in the new year.

Finally, the commission then set a meeting for Feb. 5, 2007, to review all financial disclosure forms from newly elected and/or appointed public officials.
