Margaret L. Matney captured the majority of the votes in the Nov. 7 county attorney race, which makes her not only the new county attorney for this next term but the first female county attorney in the history of Meade County.


An interview with Jeff Greer, state representative-elect

District 27’s newly-elected state Rep. Jeff Greer says he is excited about his new job and ready to go to Frankfort and get to work.


Incoming magistrates answer questions, address issues

Over this past weekend, I was able to reach our newly elected magistrates and ask them questions about local issues soon to be on the agenda of Fiscal Court. The magistrates-elect interviewed were Tom Goddard (I-1st), Herbie Chism (D-2nd), Mark Hubbard (D-3rd), Tony Staples, (D-4th), Steve Wardrip (R-5th) and Randall Hardesty (D-6th).


Ethics Commission meets, continues to organize

Ethics Commission chair Joanne Fitzgibbon and commission members Harold Fackler, Gloria Brady, Lamar Jones, Joe Bewley, and Tim Gossett conducted another organizing special meeting of the commission Nov. 13. Member Tara Powers was absent.


Board of Adjustments approves variance and conditional use permit

The Meade County Board of Adjustments met Nov. 15, approving one land variance and one conditional use permit.


Solid waste issue not on Fiscal Court agenda, but…

Judge Executive William Haynes convened the regular monthly meeting of the Meade County Fiscal Court Nov. 14 and moved quickly into a public session. All magistrates and dozens of concerned citizens were in attendance as Gene McGehee requested court consideration of bringing an asphalt road into the county system. Road superintendent Mark Popham pointed out the road shoulders weren’t completely up to county standards. McGehee agreed to work with the road superintendent on this issue and Fiscal Court agreed to act upon his request in the future. Randy Kelly, Ekron, thanked emergency medical dispatch for their efforts to improve emergency services in the county. Judge Haynes then closed the public session and methodically addressed specific issues on the court’s agenda.


Board of education reviews annual audit

The Meade County Board of Education held a special called meeting prior to their regular monthly meeting for the purpose of reviewing the annual audit.


Council holds second reading of ordinance regulating sexually oriented businesses

The Brandenburg City Council held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 13. Brandenburg Mayor Ronnie Joyner welcomed Mayor-elect David Pace to the meeting. Two other citizens were in attendance to express their concerns about development of property accessible only by substandard roads.


Meade PZ approves one rezoning request

The Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission held a brief meeting Nov. 16 for the purpose of hearing a single rezoning request by Wayne Weber.


Board of education receives update on building projects

The Meade County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 14. Superintendent of schools Mitch Crump welcomed Bryan Honaker to the meeting. He is the newly elected board member who will take Jeff Greer’s place in January. “We look forward to working with you,” Crump told Honaker.
