Meade County’s Roads Scholars honored

FALLS OF ROUGH – During a luncheon Dec. 7 at Rough River Dam State Resort Park, 48 men and women were presented with awards commemorating their classroom achievements for the Roads Scholar and Road Master programs.

Attendance award for DTW Elementary

David T. Wilson Elementary School, which consists of over 500 students, had an attendance rate of over 96 percent for the month of November.

Spare change changes lives at Flaherty Elementary School

During the week of Nov. 13-17, Flaherty Elementary students participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Pennies for Patients program. Each day students were encouraged to bring in different types of coins – pennies on Monday, nickels on Tuesday, dimes on Wednesday, and quarters on Thursday. Friday was declared “Anything Goes Day” and students could bring in any type of coins, paper money or even checks. The overall school fundraising goal was $750. However, the students raised over five times this goal with a grand total of $3,754.32! Money raised during this program is used to fund blood cancer research and provide a wide variety of patient services.

Taylor Parker wins Lions Club competition

“Celebrate Peace” is the theme of the 2006-2007 Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest. The Muldraugh Lions Club has sponsored this program for the past two years. Through the contest, students are encouraged to visually depict their interpretation of the contest’s theme.

MCHS council discusses attendance incentives, logistics of freshman center and renovation

The school based decision making council of Meade County High School held its last meeting of 2006 Dec. 11. Principal Bill Adams began with the good news report, sharing new of band and choral concerts, a successful start to the new wrestling program and state tournament participation for Special Olympics bowling. The football program made it to the final 8 in the state’s 4-A playoffs, and Coach Larry Mofield was named Area Coach of the Year by the News Enterprise.
