Fiscal Court organizes, rehires personnel
By JOE REDMON

Meade County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft conducted his first special called meeting Jan 2 to officially organize the county government, hire all employees, approve and authorize the updating of bonds and sureties, and update applicable signature cards. Generally, the county treasurer, the judge executive, and the payroll clerk require signature cards at the bank, as two of three must sign all checks for the county.
The new court and its members proceeded through the agenda quickly and efficiently, with few questions. These administrative matters officially opened the county government for business by the new Fiscal Court. The newly elected Sheriff Butch Kerrick and County Attorney Margaret Matney requested funds for office furniture. When asked after the meeting, both suggested the desks and furniture taken by their predecessors were likely personal property and not county property. Their request, however, did bring to light the need for a procedure to properly account for public property.
Fiscal Court will conduct its first regular business meeting Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. All Fiscal Court meetings are open to the public.
