Business as usual for Meade County school calendar

Rumors have been circulating regarding the last day of school in Meade County. At this time, the last day of school is scheduled for May 15, and the school system is on track for that day. Winter, however, is not over, and there may yet be a snow day to contend with.
That’s where the rumors begin. With construction at the high school and the conversion of James R. Allen Primary School to the high school’s freshman center, it has been rumored that a tight construction schedule will require the school to be closed no later than May 15 – no matter what. And that would mean students would go to school on Saturdays until 4 p.m. and/or give up their spring break.
There is no truth to the rumor, according to Paul Poole, director of personnel for Meade County schools. “It’s business as usual,” he said. “If there are snow days, they’ll be added to the end of the scheduled school year to ensure kids receive the required number of instructional days.”
Poole added that anyone with concerns about this issue is encouraged to call the school board office at (270) 422-7500 and speak with either Poole or superintendent Mitch Crump.
