Fiscal Court holds special meeting, ends 109 Board

Meade County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft convened and chaired a special called meeting of the Meade County Fiscal Court Jan. 24. All members of Fiscal Court were present. Agenda items included the second readings of ordinances altering two road service districts and finalizing the dissolution of the 109 Board. All second readings passed unanimously, but it was the quick finality of Ordinance 2007-01, at last dissolving the 109 Board as the “governing body” of solid waste management in Meade County which was significant.
Claims and transfers, whereby the county pays its bills and does its day to day business, sparked some questions from members of the Court and Craycroft answered them in turn, while everything passed unanimously. An already-budgeted $7,500 grant for the Muldraugh Fire Department passed again, as the actual funds weren’t properly handled when originally passed. Craycroft then announced the Core Committee, a intergovernmental regional group supporting Fort Knox, was hosting an informational update regarding the Base Re-Alignment Committee (BRAC) progress on post. Commanding Maj. Gen. Robert Williams and garrison commander Col. Mark Needham will host and answer questions for interested members of the public from 10:30 a.m. to noon p.m. at the John Hardin High School Performing Arts Theater on Feb. 20. He invited his fellow Meade Countians to attend.
This closes a busy initial month for the new Fiscal Court, with three special meetings, a regular business meeting, and a public hearing. Solid waste management is now firmly under the control of the judge executive and Fiscal Court and according to Craycroft the court will move quickly to contain spiraling deficits in that department. The next scheduled meeting of the court will be the regular business meeting Feb. 13.
