Kayla Wilkins missing since Jan. 18; family desperately searches for her
The family of Kayla N. Wilkins is searching for her and is offering a $1,000 reward for her safe return. The 17-year-old has been missing since Jan. 18. “I didn’t realize it had happened until she didn’t come home from school in a timely manner,” said Kayla’s mother, Missy Wilkins. Kayla, who is an honor roll student at Meade County High School, had taken her mother’s car that morning to go to school. Evidently, she never arrived.

CSM Tennant takes a windshield tour of Meade County
Meade County rolled out the welcome mat Jan. 30 – so to speak. Actually it was more like the welcome road as Command Sgt. Maj. Willie C. Tennant Sr. toured Meade and Hardin counties over a two-day period so he could report back to his unit on his findings.
Money matters and other operations of the county clerk’s office
The funding to operate the county clerk’s office comes solely from the fees collected by that office and starts each Jan. 1 with a zero balance. “There’s always a chance there could be no money at the first pay period to pay the office employees,” said County Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald, “but that has thankfully never happened since I’ve been associated with the office.”
The duties of the county clerk
The functions performed by the county clerk’s office are numerous and varied, and the office is generally a very well-visited and busy place. The duties of this office fall into the general categories of issuing and registering, recording and keeping records of various legal instruments, voter registration and purgation, election duties, and tax duties. In some counties the county clerk has the option of serving as clerk of the fiscal court, but this is not practiced in Meade County.
Conservation District cost share program announced
The Meade County Conservation District will be accepting requests for cost share funding under the Kentucky Soil Erosion and Water Quality Cost Share Program beginning Feb. 1 and extending through Feb. 28.
Board of Elections discusses more training, primary election
The Meade County Board of Elections discussed training issues at the Jan. 8 monthly meeting. County Clerk Katrina Fitzgerald recommended providing precinct workers with more training in the operation of the voting machine as well as an overview of election procedures. She further recommended making this mandatory for precinct workers and asking Fiscal Court to pay for the extra training. She will go before Fiscal Court during its Feb. 13 meeting to present the request for additional training funds.
