OK Kids honored at annual banquet

The Optimist Club of Meade County held its annual banquet April 26 to honor the winner of their essay contest and to recognize kids in four age groups for optimizing kindness.

Is ethanol driving up the cost of food?

Is the demand for ethanol driving up the cost of food in the United States? Several reports in the past few weeks have indicated as much, but Don Martin of AgriFuels has a different take on the issue.


Fiscal Court conducts special meeting and a work session

Meade County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft convened a special meeting and work session of the Meade County Fiscal Court April 24 with a relatively short agenda. Magistrate Mark Hubbard did not attend. The court’s special meeting had one agenda item, a closed session to discuss a personnel matter under KRS 61.810. Planning & Zoning (P&Z) code enforcement officer Hank Schafftner followed the court into closed session and left before the end of that meeting. When Fiscal Court emerged from the executive session, Craycroft acknowledged there was “no action taken” and immediately entertained a motion to adjourn the special-called meeting and open the working session.


Brian Arnett a Guinness World Record holder

Earlier this year, Breckinridge County resident Brian Arnett set out to make a name for himself with the Guinness Book of World Records.


Rezoning requests approved, denied and withdrawn by Meade PZ

The Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission met April 19 to hear five rezoning requests and approve development plans for two businesses.
