During its regular monthly meeting May 8, the Meade County Board of Education moved quickly through standard approval items such as payroll, accounts payable and construction fund payments. The superintendent’s personnel report was lengthy as it listed all resignations, transfers and continuation of contracts and employment for all certified and classified staff for the 2007-2008 school year. Also approved was the salary schedule for both certified and classified staff. Salaries for certified staff range from $28,040 for teachers with zero years experience to $58,097 for teachers who hold a Rank I certification and have 22 or more years of experience. The classified pay scale ranges from $8.03 per hour to $13.66 per hour, based on employment level and years of experience.

The 1st annual 1-Mile Run-Walk-Roll, sponsored by the Meade County Public Library and the YMCA of Harrison County (Ind.) was a success with approximately 100 participants. Austin Dunn crossed the finish line in just under 6 minutes, taking first place in the youth division.

FRANKFORT – The Citizen Foster Care Review Board (CFCRB) of Meade County is seeking volunteers to make a difference in the lives of local foster children. Volunteers are needed to review cases of children placed in foster care because of dependency, abuse and neglect.
Fiscal Court conducts monthly meeting
Meade County Judge Executive Harry Craycroft convened a regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Meade County Fiscal Court May 8 with a full Court and quickly proceeded with the light agenda.
Bake sale was a success
The Meade County Extension Homemakers held a bake sale to raise funds for the Homemakers’ scholarship fund at Save-A-Lot May 4.

Ethics Commission delays action again
The Meade County Ethics Commission, chaired by Joann Fitzgibbon, gathered for a special meeting May 10 to continue reviewing information submitted by a respondent concerning an ethics complaint. Members Gloria Brady, Harold Fackler, Tim Gossett and Tara Powers met for over an hour in executive session to again consider this matter, with the commission deciding yet again to request further information from the respondent prior to making a decision to actually “hear” the complaint and before deciding whether to officially hold hearings into this matter.
