Graduates of the Meade County High School Class of 2007 participated in the 93rd commencement services held May 18 at Hamilton Field.


Valedictorian’s address – Andrea Thomas

First of all, I’d like to welcome you all – parents, teachers, friends, and family. Thank you for being here and thank you for all your support that you have given this graduating class.


Salutatorian’s address – Ava Jordan

For those of you who are not familiar with poetry, that was the last stanza of the poem “Nostalgia” by Billy Collins. And, as always, Billy’s words are quite fitting for the occasion we find ourselves celebrating. Tonight, the class of 2007 graduates. In a way, this is the end of an era. We’ve worked for 13 long years to come this far, and now that the moment is finally here, it is difficult to see where our paths will lead us. We don’t know what the dance of the future will look like, or what it will be called. But we’ll learn.


Meade County to reap benefits of state funds for water and sewer projects

A $1 million dollar legislative appropriation, in the form of a grant, has cleared the way for several water and sewer projects to be completed in Meade County.

Fiscal Court adopts road name, okays three names during special meeting

There is one “new” road in Meade County while three private roads are now officially part of the county’s road system.


Rock Ridge Community Block Watch formed

In response to an increase in criminal activity in the area where he lives and serves as a volunteer firefighter, George Eid decided it was time to form a neighborhood watch type of group. “The problems of the city have definitely come to Meade County,” said Eid, and we want to put a stop to the crime in our area.” Eid met with the sheriff, who was supportive of the idea, as was Magistrate Herbie Chism, who represents the 2nd District which includes the Rock Ridge area.


Garbage changes are in store for Brandenburg residents

City residents and business owners can expect some changes in their garbage service, following ratification of a three-year contract May 14.


Rezoning requests tabled, dropped and approved at Meade County PZ

Two large groups attended the May 17 meeting of the Meade County Planning and Zoning Commission, filling the courtroom to near capacity.


Bypass concerns tackled by Brandenburg council

Bypass speeders, intersection lighting improvements and the possible reconfiguration of the bypass where it intersects with KY 448 were addressed by the Brandenburg City Council at their May 14 meeting.

Rezoning clears way for new homes in Brandenburg subdivision

A unanimous vote at the May 14 meeting of the Brandenburg City Council cleared the way for a nearly 8-acre parcel to be rezoned.

Rental residents who skip out leaving the Meade County Water District responsible for their bill should watch out.


Information sought in cemetery vandalism

Sometime between Thursday afternoon, May 17, and Sunday morning, May 20, the St. Theresa Church Cemetery, located near Rhodelia, was vandalized.
