Fort Knox salutes the nation on Independence Day

On July 4, many active duty military, their families and civilians gathered on Brooks Field at Fort Knox to celebrate the most important of all birthdays – the birthday of our nation. It was on this date, 231 years ago, the Declaration of Independence was signed and Thomas Jefferson’s revolutionary concepts of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness were instilled in the very heart of our country.

Solid Waste committee holds first meeting; slates July 30 session

Although nothing can start on the five-year plan until after solid waste bids are returned, that didn’t stop the three members from the newly-named committee from holding their first meeting.


August meeting slated for release of Riverport construction funds

A legislative oversight committee in August is expected to approve the construction bid for the planned Riverport access road.


Bylaws tweaked by Riverport Authority; visitors are expected

Minor bylaws changes won unanimous approval July 3 by Riverport Authority members.

“Most of the words (in the purpose) were borrowed from some other counties with similar circumstances,” said secretary and committee member Edd Pike.


No public; text changes earn OK at P&Z meeting

Minor text changes won the unanimous endorsement of the Brandenburg Planning and Zoning Commission, following a four-minute public hearing.


Meade County Homemakers 59th annual meeting

The Meade County Extension Homemakers celebrated their 59th annual meeting June 28 at the Extension office with a beach party. Decorations, music and dress carried out the theme of the evening for over 60 Homemakers and their guests who enjoyed a great summer meal.
